It is the winter season and with that comes the peak of flu season. The key to staying healthy is to maintain healthy habits, eating a balanced diet, getting exercise and enough rest. The best way to help reduce the risk of the seasonal flu is to get vaccinated each year. With that though, there are also many other precautions you can take to protect yourself and others from the virus.

  1. Avoid close contact with others who are sick, and if you are sick keep your distance from others, or simply stay home.
  2. Wash your hands frequently with soap and water, if soap and water are not available, plan to carry hand sanitizer with you.
  3. Cover your mouth when you cough or sneeze and be sure to wash your hands right after.
  4. Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth as this is an easy way to spread germs to your body.
  5. Get enough rest, getting quality sleep has been shown to boost your immune system.
